Coloring Your Eyebrows

By Kelley of thatgirlsbathandbody.blogspot.com
Filling in your eyebrows: This post is for beginners as you should not attempt to dye your eye browns even with a brow tint unless professional performed or you have much experience. Not only can dying or bleaching brows at home be unsafe but appear fake if not colored right. My tip is easy and no commitment only temporarily so if you don't like it just wash off or use a makeup remover.

If, like me, you have eyebrows that are a bit too pale in color you can easily make them darker. This technique is used to enhance your eyes unless your going for a less natural look. When applying mascara or an eye makeup always make sure you have excesspowder under your eyes. If you're using loose powder, expect to make a mess. It easier to clean up fallen eyeshadow or mascara mess. Groom your brows with a clean mascara brush or similar tool. Move loose hairs into place and blend color for a more natural appearance.

Tools you will need:
Eye brow tweezers or wax kit, brow brush, gel or clear mascara, mirror and liner.
  1. First get your eyebrows into shape by plucking or waxing and brushing. Groomyour brows with a clean mascara brush or makeup tool such as a brown brush. I find brown brushes work the best. You can find tools that have a brown brush on one end and a lash brush on the other side. This tool allows you to style your brows by moving loose hairs into place and blend color for a more natural appearance. Next, find a powder eyeshadow that matches your coloring and using a brow brush, gently run the color through your eyebrows.
  2. Don't apply too much, just enough to darken the brows. Try not applying color too dark or too light. To keep all the hairs in place, spray a very small amount of hairspray onto the brow brush, using clear mascara or grooming gel such for hair or brow and sweep that gently through the brows. When coloring your eye brows with powder it is best to use a flat angled brow brush. Apply color by following the natural shape of the brow.
  3. I normally use light brown as that is my natural coloring, but if you dye your hair match your brown as close as possible. At the time I first wrote this post my hair was a dark brown color, as that looks natural with my normal hair coloring. So you may need to experiment a bit to find the correct shade for your eyebrows.

I prefer going a shade darker on my brow and not lighter it does not define your eyes as much in my opinion but try experimenting. When applying color stroke brow with light, feathery strokes, focusing on adding color to thinner areas. Avoid marking brows with too much color you don't want painted on brows.

I have also used brown or eye liners as well as mascara. When using a eyebrow liner make use it is a sharp eyebrow pencil. Mascara? Yes mascara. Others may say "Don't ever use mascara on your eyebrows as it is too thick and will make a mess"!

It may be true for some but if you have fine hair on your browns and was coordinated you will have no problem applying mascara to brown. When apply using a mascara apply to the inner edges first, area closer to the nose, then move to the outer. Note if you wish you may switch this direction to what suits you best and is easier.

If brows are untamed first apply a clear mascara instead of hair spray. Allow the clear mascara to dry first before applying one to two coats. This way you avoid tinting your clear mascara or messing up you browns. Don't not apply to heavy just enough to color.
  • 4. Next, use your eyebrow brush/eyelash comb to brush out any clumps from the mascara. Brown or eyelash brush can be purchased most anywhere including your local drugstore.

Finally you can use any color eyeshadow to match or complement your hair not your outfit because that's outdated. I would suggest trying a little contrast in your eyeshadow. Remember when apply dark color to brows to use a color that is in the same family of your complexion. Such as your skin tone, coloring of your eyes face and natural hair. Go no more than a shade darker if you are new to makeup applications. Remember always skin is in.

How To Do Your Nails Fast

When you are in a rush, decisions have to be made. Prioritize. Do you shape or polish? Do you quick-dry or go the long, slow route? New formulas allow for snap decisions:

Speed-dry enamels are worthy of their name (you can open mail, search for keys, or put on your tightest long-sleeved shirt within seconds), but there's a downside: "As fast as they dry, that's as fast they chip," insists manicurist Elisa Ferri, so save them for emergencies. Eke a few extra days out of a fast-dry manicure by doing a daily touch-up with a quick-drying coat.

In the other corner, there are strong, chip-resistant formulas - the tortoise of the polish race. To pick up the pace of these tougher enamels, like That Girl's Nail Lacquer, carefully submerge freshly painted nails in a bowl of ice-cold water for 30 seconds to harden still-groopy polish.

Light or sheer shades are best for hasty manicures, Ferri says. "You can even get away with just a wide stripe down the center" rather than painstakingly painting the entire nail.

If a manicure is beyond the repair of a topcoat or two, face facts and call in the remover. You can keep single-use packets of nail polish remover (Cutex and Get Fresh make them) on hand so you can strip away color on the run.

When there is no time for polish, just clean underneath the nails, rub on a buffing cream, and shine them with a chamois buffer. Article take from some blog years ago.

Wire Work For Beginners:

Create gorgeous necklaces and bracelets in the Art Deco style. Elegant and sophisticated. Jewelery Making For Beginners: I loved this article so much I want to share it with you but with credit to the author / writer. You can find this article at bottom of post.

Anyone who has not learned the wire work basic I suggest you do so. Jewelry making newbies love memory wire. The other choose is using softer metal like silver or gold filled. Make sure of the gauge size so its easier too work with. Buy a book or talk a class and try easy techiques with proper tools. Bead stringing is where most beginning jewelry makers start, and with good reason. Anyone who has wanted to work with metal but wasn't sure about how can learn in this blog.

For earrings, first decide what type of earrings you will make. For pierced ears I find fishhooks the easiest as you can buy these ready made and simply attach your earring design to them. I use head pins to make dangly earrings. Beads can easily be threaded onto them and the flat base leaves a smooth finish at the end of the earring. However, stud earrings and clip on earrings are also possible. You buy the backings for these and beads or designs can be glued into place. If you have the time and want more creative designs take old buttons or earrings (clipons) and glue them into your new designs. You can use them for a new ring or bracelet, even a necklace. For necklaces you require thread, at a thickness which fits easily through your beads. This needs to be strong, I use waxed linen thread but also nylon would be perfect. And you will need a method on fastening the finished necklace together. Jump rings are just small rings of metal which hook into bolt rings, which are the metal rings with the small lever to open and shut them.I recommend, but it is not essential, a bead board. These have grooves running around them and inch/centimetre markings so that you can easily measure and design your necklace before stringing it together, this avoids having to restring it to make changes or correct mistakes. The basic toolkit includes round-nosed pliers, flat-nosed pliers and flush wire cutters. These are for creating loops in the wire to attach the findings or other beads and for cutting the wire with a flat edge so as not to leave any sharp edges on your jewelery.

Next lay out your beads in the desired pattern and when you are happy, start by tying the jump ring (a complete circle of wire) onto one end then thread the beads onto your linen or nylon thread. Depending on the thickness of the thread a needle may be useful but note that the smaller beads will not always pass over the eye of the needle. You may find something called a jewellery needle, but this is just a needle with a small eye and is not particularly specialised for jewellery making.Be careful when adding the bolt ring (necklace fastening with the lever) to the other end. If you tie a necklace too loosely then the beads move around, too tightly and they bunch together. A small amount of practice may be required before you can feel how tight it should be. Earrings: Arrange the beads you want on a head pin then cut off the excess with the wire cutters leaving around 1cm above the beads. Then using the round-nosed pliers curl the excess wire into a loop and pinch closed if necessary with the flat-nosed pliers. Attach this to the base of your fish hook to complete the earring.

Once you have practiced with a few simple designs you will no doubt want to tackle some more complicated designs. One of the most effective designs is adding a pendant to a necklace, either a single pendant in a Y shape, or one longer and two shorter pendants at either side. Pendants may be added by using a head pin in the same way I described making earrings in the previous article. Or pendants can be purchased specially if you would like to use a certain charm like a butterfly or angel. Again be careful of the weight of the finished piece. I find 16 inches with a 1.5 or 2 inch pendant looks very nice. You could make an extra long necklace or a necklace with many strands. Maybe use invisible wire to make your necklace. Use rougher thread and tie a knot either side of the bead to make it stay and leave gaps between the beads. You can add two or three head pins with beads on to the fish hooks, making them various lengths. Maybe you could use an eye pin (which has a loop instead of a head on it) to add a larger bead at the top and hang other beads from that. Or use eye pins to make a string of beads to attach to the fish hook. You can buy the findings for chandelier earrings and add your own beads. Or buy cages for beads to make earrings or necklaces (though it is possible to make these yourself with wire work.)

The basics: Threading the bead onto the wire coil, then cut the wire, leaving 0.5inches or 1cm on either side. Using the round-nosed pliers curl these ends into a loop. Do this with several beads and you can link them together in a chain.Making your own eyepin: Cut the wire to your desired length. Flush cut the ends. Place one end of your wire at the back of the round-nosed pliers then curl it al the way round. Next, using the chain-nosed pliers bend the loop back towards yourself, this is called breaking the neck and should create a curve below the loop. Then to shape the eyepin, put the loop back onto the round nose pliers and bend the length of wire until it is straight. Do this at both ends if you wish.Making a spiral: Cut a length of wire depending on what size you want the spiral to be (if making two or more of the same size remember what length you used.) Next, using the tip of your round-nosed pliers curl the end of the wire into a tight circle. Then with the flat-nosed pliers grip tightly and curl the wire around on itself. To finish curl a small loop back the opposite way to enable you to attach it to you jewellery piece.Spirals can be made closed or open (open take a bit of practice to keep the space even). The open ones can also be made uneven, of course with short sharp movements. You can put beads on them, make smaller ones and attach them to larger ones. Hammer them flat.S-links: These are my favourite things to make. They are so simple yet look professional when done. Flush cut 9cm of wire, create two small loops at the ends of the wire, in opposite directions. Then, gripping the wire at the base of the small loop bend a larger loop in the opposite direction. Repeat this at the other end. If desired flatten the outer edges of the large loops with the chasing hammer.Of course there are many other shapes that can be made with the wire. Once you have mastered the basics you can use your imagination to invent your own shapes or there are many books available on the subject.

Basic Need to Know Makeup Tips

Here is basics easy enough for anyone to follow. ENJOY !

Clean skin is a must before using makeup and having the correct "tools" is a necessity. Invest in good quality brushes for your application, and use a good skincare range everyday. Using makeup is fun - Practice with color, balance, blending, light and shade, and you should look beautiful.

Makeup is applied to the face to improve appearance - to emphasis the good features and make defects less noticeable. Foundation creates a good contour to the face and gives a base for color harmony, conceals blemishes and protects the skin from weather, wind and the environment.

The smoothest way to apply a foundation is with fingertips - blending one section at a time. Then evenly blend around the jaw, and hairline with a small dry sponge. Translucent Powder lightly applied gives a refined velvety finish.

Blusher adds color and contours the face. Pick the right color in either cool or warm tones. Apply under the cheekbone structure brushing gentle slanting strokes up towards the temple. Be careful not to use too much.

Start light and build up color as needed (see pictures further on - coming soon). {Check LINKS below} Eyes can be made to appear larger or smaller through eye shading. Light brings out, dark conceals. Dark liner make eyes appear smaller where as light bigger. Light eyes don't need as much makeup or attention.

Keep eyeliner thicker at outside end of eye graduating to middle of eye with a thinner line. Apply Mascara, and eyebrow pencil with a steady hand. If you have dark circles under your eyes, don't apply eyeliner until dark circles are covered with concealer or else your eyes will become too dark.

The finishing touch is Lipstick, gloss or stain. This will last longer if foundation and powder is applied to lips or you wear a long lasting brand. Outline lips with a soft lip pencil and define the shape and prevent "bleeding" into tiny lines around mouth. Fill mouth with chosen color, using a lip brush for application.

With all applications use light strokes and lots of blending with correct brushes or sponge flusk. Apply Blusher with a little color on brush, and use soft circular movement of brush from cheekbone to ear. Check face shapes following for correct position.

Make the right choices for your makeup application based on mood and look for the day. bend a little and don't be the same every time you make up. The appearance of our skin and face changes season to season and even day to day, depending on our health, the weather, our mood, and many reasons ..... WHILE MAKEUP TRENDS COME AND GO, STYLE REMAINS. Keep it simple.

Following are great tips for perfect makeup, enjoy the experimentation. Bad makeup technique are unflattering and can make you look tired and haggard, whilst a good makeup can bring out your best features and take years off your face, and give confidence.

Here are a simple few tips:
* use toner on your face first and apply moisturizer, to enable better blending of foundation/concealer.

* work your liquid or cream foundation onto the face with fingers in circular motions, working one area at a time, say from forehead down one side of face, then down the other side with quick motion. Blend downwards and outwards with a dry sea or makeup sponge.

* concealer is best applied after foundation - apply small dots where needed and gently pat into the skin, then wipe with a sponge to remove excess. Concealer can be applied with a sponge flusk or lip brush using the tips. If you feel a little more color is needed add to the spots, and blend again with sponge.

* use Translucent Loose Powder to set the makeup using a large soft brush and dusting over the face quickly in a downward motion. If the skin is more mature just use powder in the T-Zone of forehead, nose and chin. Use a water base foundation instead of oil to eliminate extra moisture to skin or carry mini towels that adsorb oil.

* to work out where to apply blusher, place finger along bottom of cheekbone and apply blusher in soft circular motions above that area. Never apply below the bottom of cheekbones, nor past a line from the center of your eyes. refer face shapes - click here

* for a lighter much more natural look, after loading blush onto brush, tap end of brush lightly against your hand to remove excess, then apply.

*foundation over the eye lids provides a smooth matte base and it helps stop creasing.

* go for a "no-colour" eye shadow as a base, like a soft creamy shade "highlighter" and place this on lids up to brow bone. For most eye shapes the dark colors needs to be used on outer eye area and/or in crease. If you use too much, add a little "no color" or translucent powder.

* Don't use colors to match your clothes, go for colors that suit you and your overall complexion. Example eyes first, hair and skin next. Using neutral, smudgy colors will flatter your face and try to avoid mauve, and very pink shades, depending on your skin type and makeup skills.

Refer to EYE SHAPE link for method, and find your correct colours via a Colour Image Consultant.
* eyeliner should be applied close to base of eyelashes to make them look thicker. A soft pencil is easier to manage.

* keep the thicker look to outer edge and with elbow on table for stability, draw the line towards inner corner of eye, thinning as you go. On lower lids, after application, smudge slightly with sponge tip of shadow applicator for a softer more natural look.

* to determine the correct length of eyebrows hold a pencil at the base of the nose, align it to inside corner of eye, then angle it from the base or your nose to outer corner of eye. This shows where brows should start and finish. To keep tidy, brush with
eyebrow brush. Define with light strokes of a pencil OR add a little eyeshadow power on the brush.

As with eyelids, lightly applied foundation provides a wonderful base for lipstick and helps the color last longer. Color has the power to transform your face - and your mood - completely. Palettes of color in pure pastel shades and vibrant true colors offer choices for every woman to celebrate all her many facets of a very definite femininity.

The right lip color can make all the difference. If there's one cosmetic you should have in a wide range of shades, its lipstick. For color that clings to your lips, in radiant warm earthy tones and classic natural cool shades, both matte and gloss. Make sure your lips have been moisturized, and foundation/powder applied. Outline your shape with a lip pencil in natural or a toning shade to the chosen lip color.Apply lipstick with a lip brush.

Then blot by "kissing" a tissue held between the lips, then reapply more color. Choose color tones in either warm or cool tones to suit your complexion. Though will newer lipstick available in sheer you don't not have to blot nor worry that you have applied too much this the newer formulas. So unless you are using older full coverage formula's you will not have to blot.

If you have had your "Colors" done, you will know what shades to go for, but as an example if wearing a Red outfit, don't wear Pink, Purple or Orange lipstick because it is your favorite. Look for something in brown - red (flattering on all skin types), pink-red, or red red (blue red)- depending on your skin tone and age.

These links will lead you to more information on specific titles . (Links have been removed).

For hygiene it is best not to keep product beyond certain dates.... most women use the rule of thumb of 3-6 months for all makeup. Foundation 1 year but I'd say more like 3-6 months. Lipstick maybe 1 to 2 years if matte and no longer that 6 months if creamy or liquid, powder 2 years, mascara 3 to 4 months, shadow 3 month, blush 1 year at most and in dry enviroment.

ALWAYS keep brushes clean - wash very regularly in mild natural shampoo and let dry naturally. Sponges should be washed weekly and thrown out every 4 to 5 weeks. For ladies over 40 to 50 years of age, simplify your style - in clothes and makeup.

Blend more carefully, and make sure foundation is a good match for your skin. Use light reflexive makeup to minimum unflattering shadows. Use foundation in either non-drying mineral foundation, cream makeup or liquid foundation since other skin is generally dry. All information above is common sense and from years of experience. If I have forgotten anything please add your comments below. If moisture has gotten to your makeup or your in doubt please throw away after 3 months.
