Makeup can work wonders, but if you do not know how to apply it correctly then you may as well throw it all in the trash. Makeup will only work for AND with you if you know how to use it right, something which is rarely taught and only sometimes learned by women who would benefit from such knowledge.

Don’t worry, you need not go to beauty school to learn how to apply make up correctly. You can learn how to properly apply your make up quickly and easily by learning just a few simple steps.

An important question to consider is why are you bothering to put on makeup in the first place? Are you justgoing to the grocery store to grab milk, is it a work day, or are you going out on a hot date? Figuring out just what venue or scene you will be in will help you determine how much or how little make up you may need to wear. Bear in mind that there is a large difference between daytime makeup and nighttime makeup.

If you’re going out at night, you are undoubtedly trying to go for a more sultry, sexy look that will get heads turning (whether it is with a hot date, on a night out with the girls, or out and about with your husband or partner). If it’s during the day, you will want to go for a more natural and “pretty” look rather than sexy and seducing.

If you are simply stepping into the office for the day, be sure not to overdo it. Wearing too much blush or eye liner will only make you appear outdated, old, or make you the mockery of the office. Similarly, if you are not wearing enough makeup at night when you are out on a date you will simply fade into the shadows.

When applying your makeup, it is important to avoid some common mistakes that are commonly seen in our day to day lives:

Eyeliner: Avoid putting on thick, dark eye liner that will make you look overdone during the day time. As a general rule, unless you are skilled enough to apply a fine, thin line of eye liner to your eyes with a liquid liner, avoid a liquid liner for daytime use as well.

Mascara: If you wear too much mascara it will not only look fake, but it will flake right off! Apply 2 coats MAXIMUM and do not exceed that limit!

Foundation: Remember, foundation is not a tool to be used to “darken” or “lighten” your skin. Foundation, when used properly, MATCHES your skin tone. The purpose of foundation is to give your skin a smooth, blended look. If you are looking to darken or lighten your face, check into bronzer or skin whitening products.

Powder: Make sure that the powder you use is either translucent or a skin shade that is close to yours. Also remember that powder is meant to be used as a “light dusting’ – not a thick layer – to both remove any shine and to help set your makeup.

We all know what sort of eye makeup we like when we see it, but when we attempt or even think about doing it ourselves, we become downright mystified and perplexed by how to do it.

Eye makeup does take a bit of trial and error, some eye makeup remover and a lot of patience, especially if you are somewhat “challenged” when it comes to applying makeup. Below are some easy and basic ways to apply makeup, all of which apply to any and all eye shapes.

There is some preparation involved in applying eye makeup. It’s always best to prepare the area of skin you will be applying any sort of makeup to, so when it comes to eye makeup, it is best to apply a very thin layer of either makeup primer or foundation on the eyelids. This will help correct any slight imperfections or discoloration, and you will then have the perfect canvas to work with.

Once the foundation or primer has been applied, set it with translucent powder if you are using a powdered eye shadow. If you are using a cream eyeshadow or pencil on your eyes, skip the powder as the powder will interfere with the application process.

Just how does one choose that perfect eyeshadow color for their face? One of the best tricks to use is to not base the color choice on your eye color, but rather on your hair color. Here is a good general guide to colors that will work with you based on hair color:

Brunettes: Choose mocha shades and rich chocolate browns.

Blondes: Creamy tones and taupes are definitely your colors!

Redheads: Peach, copper and ruddy browns work, as do pinks and lavenders for those who have a cooler skin tone.

Greys: Grey eyeshadow works well with grey hair, as do blues and soft lavenders and purples

There are different application strategies that you can consider. Some of these are:

One Shadow: You can cover your entire eyelid with one color. If you plan on doing this for simplicity’s sake, try to opt for a cream eyeshadow rather than a powder eyeshadow. Choose light or medium tones as well and stay away from dark tones (this will only give you a very dramatic or even vampish look). Add a layer of mascara and line your eyes with a brown eyeliner and you’re good to go!

Emphasizing the Crease: This is perhaps the most popular form of applying eyeshadow to your eye area. To do this, you will start by choosing the lightest color that you have first. Apply the light color all over your entire eyelid. Now take the darker shade. Take your eyeshadow brush and hold it right to the corner of your eye, right where your lash line begins and slightly above your crease (right at the brow bone). The brush will naturally glide up and stop right where you will want the color to end.

Not all of us have the luxury of enjoying long, languid mornings. Oftentimes we’re in such a rush that we do not even have time to get makeup on our face! Not to worry, with these quick, simple makeup tricks you will be able to make yourself look absolutely gorgeous in no time.

1. Got oil? For anyone suffering from makeup skin but in a race against the clock to get some where, all you need to do is mist your face with your toner and then pat your face dry with a tissue. Follow up with a dusting of loose, translucent powder and you’re good to go!

2. If you want to get that flawless complexion look got are a bit lacking on time, you can easily obtain this look by distracting a viewers attention away from your skin. To make your skin complexion appear fresher and brighter, apply a refreshing layer of pink lipstick to your lips. The pink shade will make you appear more youthful, plus no one will be noticing the blemishes or other slight imperfections that may be present on your skin.

3. Late for a date but not sure how to make your eyes pop? All you need is a bit of liner and mascara. You can skip the eye shadow shades completely and simply use your eyeliner to draw a clean, thicker line from your inner lash line to the outer lash line. The trick is to draw the line just past the outer corner of your eyes to give yourself that more dramatic, sexy look! Follow up with two coats of mascara and you’re good to go.

4. Have hair frizz and hand lotion? Great! To flatten that frizz that’s messing up your ‘do, simply dampen your hands with water and then add one drop of hand lotion to the mix. Rub your hands together, and then pull your hair back in a style that won’t cause any kinks or unflattering bends in the hair (such as a French twist). After 10 minutes, take your hair out and it will be completely frizz-free!

5. Never underestimate the power of a pony tail. Pony tails are not only easy, but they’re also totally chique! Pull your hair back quickly and “effortlessly” with your fingers, tie it, and spray with hairspray. Take one strand, twist it around the pony tail tie, and pin it. There you have it! A totally cool and quickly hair style.

The Luxury Eye Brush is something I think is best suited for an all over wash. Many of you probably use brushes this shape for your crease area. I have no crease so I tend to use these as a blender brush or for an all over wash of color. If you?re new to brushes and looking for something in this category, I highly recommend you get the EB over any other brush this shape. The brush is dense enough so it allows control. Some loose brushes simply don?t have enough density (enough hairs) resulting in a loose floppy type of brush that provides no control. Others are either too stiff or too soft preventing you from picking up enough product to get a decent application which may require multiple dips into your shadows and swipes on the lids to get enough to show up. I find Edward Bess?s Luxury Eye Brush to be the perfect density and texture (not too soft but not pokey) to get a good even application. Since my eye lids are smaller and do not have creases, this takes up a big chunk of my eye. It is a versatile brush though. When EB did my makeup, he used 1 brush to apply 2 colors (Mirage all over and Storm just 1/2 way up the lid). For my own personal application, I prefer to use more than 1 brush so I don?t mix colors and get them muddy, but EB?s makeup skills are far superior to mine. I look forward to more brushes from his line!

The Luxury Face Brush by Edward Bess is another winner. I?ve had a number of kabuki brushes from other lines such as Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier and MAC ? all of which I liked but are at opposite extremes in texture. The Bobbi Brown is by far the softest and I love to use this for powder application. The Laura Mercier Face brush was too harsh of a texture for my face, it had good application for bronzer, but wasn?t my favorite.

Edward Bess?s falls right in between for softness. The best part is the handle is slightly longer which makes it easier to hold. I have super small fingers to begin with, but find the BB sometimes difficult to grasp easily. I imagine those with normal sized fingers might find it difficult to hold something that short as well. So far, I?ve only used the Luxury Face Brush with bronzer. It picks up just the right amount of product so you don?t need to tap off any excess before applying to the face.

Overall love. Spending about $100 on 2 brushes is definitely an ouch to the wallet upfront, but these two brushes are purchases I highly recommend. These are what I would call ?no regrets? products.

Finding the right tools is important because good tools make all the difference for application. I have some brushes that are over 10 years old from MAC and Trish McEvoy ? all of which I love. For the eye brush, I believe the EB is the best in its category for shape/size. The face brush is great as well ? I have not tried kabuki brushes extensively so I can?t compare it to other brands, but I think it?s a great quality brush.
